“F***ing Weirdos”: Southwest Airlines Pilot Goes on Epic Rant Against Bay Area Leftists in Hot Mic Incident
A Southwest Airlines pilot is likely in some hot water after getting caught on a tirade against Bay Area leftists.
The pilot had been departing Mineta San Jose International Airport on March 12 when he went on his hot mic rant.
“F**k this place, g**damn liberal f***s,” the pilot said. “Eight guns out here somewhere as it is. F***ing weirdos, probably driving around in f***ing Hyundais, f***ing roads and s**t that go slow as f**k.”
Then as someone on the same air traffic control frequency stated that this was a hot mic, the pilot added, “You don’t have balls unless you’re f***ing rolling coal man, g**damn it.”
Live ATC has archived an MP3 version of the audio here. A two-minute clip of the rant is here.
The audio has been forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and is now under investigation.
FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor said in a statement that “FAA regulations prohibit airline pilots from talking about subjects that are unrelated to safely conducting their flight while taxiing and while flying below 10,000 feet altitude.”
A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines also released this statement: “Our corporate Culture is built on a tenet of treating others with concern and dignity and the comments are inconsistent with the professional behavior and overall respect that we require from our Employees. This situation was an isolated incident involving a single Employee and not representative of the nearly 60,000 hardworking, respectful People of Southwest Airlines. We do not publicly discuss Employee matters, but we are fully addressing the situation internally.”
